Web -- world wide web.
Webmaster -- the person responsible for administering
a web site.
Wide Area Network (WAN) -- any Internet or network
that covers an area larger than a single building or campus.
World Wide Web (WWW) - A global network-based information
system that uses the Internet as a medium to display documents
called web pages on computer screens. This is basically
a huge collection of documents that are linked to each other
in such a way that you can easily navigate (go from document
to document), usually by pointing and clicking. Each document
is called a Web page. Web pages make up a Web site of organizations,
agencies, governments, schools and individuals. A home page
is a document that provides the starting point for exploring
a collection of Web pages. In addition to text and graphics,
Web pages contain links to other Web pages. To navigate
around the Web, you use Web browser software. Web browsers
follow commands on Web pages to display text, graphics and
links to other locations. Because a link can take you to
a totally different location, "browsing the Web" is a lot
like browsing an encyclopedia-you look up one topic and
are referred to several related topics.
